Ingredients:
1 1/2 cup warm water
1 pkg dry yeast (2.5 tsp)
1 tbsp granulated sugar
4 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 egg, lightly beaten
Coarsely ground Kosher or sea salt
Directions:
- Combine water, yeast and sugar in a mixing bowl.
- Allow to stand until yeast is dissolved & begins to foam (5 minutes, roughly) [mine actually never started to foam, it barely bubbled.]
- Stir in flour and 1 1/2 tsp salt. Turn out onto lightly floured surface and knead for 8-10 minutes or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Roll each piece into 16 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 20-inch long rope and form a pretzel.
- Place on a lightly greased sheet. Cover and let rise for 20 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 425. Brush pretzels with egg and sprinkle salt. [i didn’t put salt on mine]. Bake 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove pretzel from baking sheet and cool on a wire rack. [Since i didn’t put the salt on, after i took them out of the oven i waited about 3 minutes and then i put a little butter on them and sprinkled some sugar and cinnamon over them].
*Notes:
These are yummy. I had to ask Jake what pretzels looked like cause i kept messing up the shape. lol. Thank goodness for husbands!
